Saturday 28th June, 11.30am-6.15pm, Amington Rec.
There should be something for everyone at this year’s Amington Fete this Saturday 28th June at Amington Recreation Ground. The Fete committee consisting of local people and police and community representatives, hope for a really good day – and there’s plenty to fill the programme. The theme this year is The Wild West, and children have been approached through the primary schools to join the parade in themed Fancy Dress, leaving the Kerria Centre at 11.30 a.m. The police Community Support Officers have done a splendid job of organizing the parade and arranging for us to connect the upper part of Amington community with the Recreation Ground for this event.”
Once at the Rec., the Fete will be opened by Tamworth Mayor, Councillor Brian Beale, at 12.30 p.m. Judging of the Fancy Dress will follow with prizes for boy and girl and best school. Then the party really gets going with Dance Groups, country crooner, John Pinner, Amington Band and a Wild West re-enactment by the Authentic Western Group. There will be displays by Birds Orchard Riding School, including ‘Calamity Jane’ and rides for children. There will be some great clowning around with world renowned clown, Revd. Roly Bain. Later on there will be a display by the Shotokan Karate Club and Belly Dancing by ‘Beliamo’. “There are over 30 stalls, food provided by Ginny’s Jackets and Amington Scouts and the MC will be popular Tamworth DJ, Barry John. There will also be face-painting, a Bouncy Castle and static displays of vintage and classic cars, the Tamworth Fire Engine and the Police Safety Team,” said Revd. Harris.
One of the committee members, Judith Ackers, added “Amington is a great place to live. It has been 10 years since the last carnival and we’re excited about seeing Amington families gathering to have fun and enjoy quality time together.” Entrance to the event is free and prize programmes will be available for 50p. The event will close around 6.15 p.m.
“All the money raised will be put to use for the community,” said the Revd. Harris. “The committee decided that more facilities should be made available for young people and we will also help maintain Amington church following recent lead thefts and repairs to the organ. We are grateful to the community for its support.”
In the event of a very wet day, the Arena activities will take place in Amington Band Room and stall-holders are asked to set up stalls in the Cornerstone Hall (Old School site) where there will also be refreshments.
